Midsummer – the summer solstice festival

Long since in Ukraine the Sun was considered high and bright deity. It was called affectionately by Dazhdbog, i.e. God, the life giver, the God of light and goodness, in the face of which run all the dark and evil forces. That is, the ancient Slavs believed that they are the grandchildren of the Sun. And the author of “Word about Igor’s regiment” also calls the people Degdbgie grandchildren. Ancient Ukrainians, like other peoples of the world, were sun worshipers. They sang hymns to the Sun, created legends about him, sacrificed flowers, fragrant herbs, fruits and berries, turned to him with prayers.

The sun as the Supreme God, built on Russia temples-temples, which put the wooden image of the Sun — idols. Day and night the priests kept the sacred fire before the statues dazhdbog. People believed that the need to appease the Sun with prayers and songs, then it will be favoured them, to send a good and bountiful harvest. But if I get angry, I will send evil on people — drought, heat, hunger, misery. Therefore, during the year, spent the holidays in honor of the Sun. The most important ones: Midsummer and Christmas Carol.
